Study abroad

Each year, more than 300 Gettysburg students prepare themselves for a global future by choosing one of nearly 200 study-abroad options.

With such wide-ranging options, it's no wonder more than half of Gettysburg students spend a semester abroad. Thirty-one programs are directly affiliated with the College and more than 100 others are offered in collaboration with other schools. Engaged learning and a sense of global citizenship are key goals of Gettysburg's curriculum.

  • You may find yourself studying medical practice and policy in Copenhagen, rotating through a Danish hospital and taking courses in bio-medical ethics and learning about the Danish national health care system.
  • Or spend a semester in Italy, studying language and art among the historic treasures of Florence.
  • You can spend a year at Rhodes University in South Africa studying anthropology and sociology.
  • Or study at the National University de Cuyo, in Mendoza, Argentina, enrolling in regular classes with Argentine students.

Off-campus study programs are also available across the United States, including opportunities at the United Nations in New York City, two leading marine research labs, and sites such as the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Smithsonian's museum of international modern and contemporary art in Washington, D.C.

Study Abroad Series: Aix-en-Provence

Aix-en-Provence proved to be the perfect choice for Lisa Droege's Globalization Studies major and French minor--but not at all what she was expecting. From studying a mix of courses that explored cultural differences within France and made comparisons to American culture, to scaling Provence's famous Mont Saint Victoire, to making crepes with her French host family, Lisa was able to take full advantage of her time in a unique country with influences ranging from the south of Spain to northern Africa. watch the video
