Free Admission at the David Wills House
To celebrate the 5th annual Museum day, presented by Smithsonian magazine, the David Wills House will be giving free admissions on Saturday September 26, 2009. Museum day is a nation wide program that allows all Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsoian.com visitors to visit participating museums free of charge. The David Wills House will also be giving free admission to all Adams County residents as well. For more information, click here.
Celebrate America's Best Idea
On September 26th, Gettysburg National Park wil be celebrating Ken Burns' new documentary "The National Parks: America's Best Idea." This six year project, filmed all around the country and directed by Ken Burns, will air on PBS nationwide, starting Semptember 27th, and will air over six nights. The public is invited to the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center on September 26th at 5:30pm for a 45 minute preview film for the series. See the full article here.

The Civil War Institute 2009 was a stimulating week. Friends gathered at registration on June 21st catching up on family news and speculating on the week ahead. Inspiring speakers, interesting tours, a fun raffle/auction, and a moving tribute to Gabor Boritt all helped to make this a very successful week. View additional photos from this seminar.

The theme for the 2010 Civil War Conference was announced Thursday, June 25th to an eager audience. We will be studying the "Election of 1860" considering the politics of the day, introducing the "characters" surrounding the election, and Secession with hitorians Michael Burlingame, Allen Guelzo, Matthew Pinsker, Michael Holt, Craig Symonds, and others. Our full day tours will include trips to Harpers Ferry with Dennis Frye and Ed Bearss and Ford's Theatre and museum. The half day tours will concentrate on Gettysburg. Don't miss this week of scholarly pursuit and fun. To hold your place send in a registration form along with a $50.00 non refundable deposit.
Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania 2009 Essay Contest Winner
The winner of the 2009 Lincoln Fellowship essay contest is Alycia R. Grant, a 17 year old student from Ocean Township High School in Ocean, New Jersey. Alycia won from over a hundred wonderful essay's titled "What the Gettysburg Address Means to Me". Read this award winning essay.
